Why funds are an important component of GBIM portfolios
Discover why we often select investments in funds for our clients.
GBIM tailors investment portfolios for individual clients’ needs, and we believe that they are best served by our concentrating upon correct choice of assets. We have a “top-down” approach to asset allocation which considers economics, market dynamics and probabilities.
Correct asset allocation is the most effective way of achieving good tailored results; and the most efficient way of implementing this is by using funds.
No investment manager can do everything well, so we take the advice of experts within each field and, where appropriate, may use their funds. By having a few funds within a particular asset class, we can improve the potential for capital gains because different managers have different approaches to choosing investments.
We believe that it is not right merely to be in the stock market, but that it is important to use managers who are effective at finding attractive opportunities within it. Many of these have established their own boutique operations, which may not be easily found by members of the public, or which do not deal directly with private clients.
It is well worth paying for expertise, and the quality of sector advice which a specialist fund manager can offer - we believe - more than offsets the additional charges. Fund managers sometimes refund part of their charge which we will pass back to our client.
